I’d love to have the time to help everyone, but I don’t 🥲

You’ve probably come here from my calendar booking page. Or maybe from somewhere else.

You may have seen a message like this:

For product & business leaders: A no-obligation chat about what problems you’re looking to solve for your business, team or yourself, and some potential ways to solve them.
Please note: This offer is not available for job hunters, people looking for advice about getting into fractional/consulting work, or people looking for me to try out their products.

This probably looks a bit unfair, right? Why can’t I help you with getting a job, or moving into fractional/consulting work, or checking out your product?

Time is money, I’ve got kids to feed, and product people are supposed to be good at prioritising!

I mean, I guess this one is obvious, and the one I’m most uncomfortable with because I want to be able to help everyone and be generous with my time. But time I’m spending doing the things that I shouldn’t be doing is time I’m spending not doing the things I should be doing.

I try to be as generous with my time as possible

Through the podcast and my LinkedIn and newsletters and free events, I do my best to contribute to the product community – I’m sure some might argue that I could do more, but I do my best to share as much as I can with the broader product community.

I’m not always the best person to help

I have opinion about everything, and expertise in some things, but I am very much specialised in:

  • Coaching & training product leaders & their teams
  • Organisational assessments & action plans
  • Fractional product leadership

Whilst I’ve dabbled in other things, those are the areas where I have the most to give. There are other people who specialise in other areas, and you should speak to them. They know more!

If you want to learn more about fractional work and consulting in general:

You should also consider following Dan Gwalter on LinkedIn as he posts a lot of useful content. He also does occasional free webinars, and offers paid coaching for fractional consultants.

If you want career advice (CVs/resumes or interviews):

Try these specialists:

All of these people offer great free resources as well as paid options.

If you want to find people to check out your product:

I’m afraid I can’t help much here – I might do it for close friends, but I already spare some time to work with early-stage product work is done through Google for Startups and ULTRA.VC, so I don’t have time or headspace to do anymore (however, if you’re looking for paid advisors, we could probably talk!). Obviously there are places like Product Hunt and others!

So yes, if you’ve made it this far, thanks for reading. I genuinely wish you success with your job hunt, or moving into fractional/consulting roles, or launching your product. I hope to see you around the Product Sphere!
